Radboud Castle

In the 13th century, Count Floris V had a burrow constructed in Medemblik, by the Almere, the present-day IJsselmeer. The burrow was part of a series of five bastions intended to keep the rebellious West-Frisians under control. The only castle that still stands today, is the castle in Medemblik. When you visit Radboud Castle, a gorgeous wall carpet will show you why Floris V constructed the castle. Various animations will explain how the medieval people used to live, what they ate, how they made clothes, waged wars and built castles. Children will enjoy the visit as well. A scavenger hunt will help them discover the castle and be amazed about how people used to live in a medieval castle. There is also an attic especially for kids to play in. Downstairs, in the Castle Café, there is also a kids corner in the tower and a kidsbox on the menu. Outside on the castle square children can play with historical Dutch games.
