Monoprints are a form of printing in which only one unique print is made. The artist paints or draws directly on a smooth plate, such as glass, metal or plastic. This image is then transferred to paper by passing it through a press or rubbing it by hand.

Unlike other printing techniques, such as etching or lithography, where multiple identical prints can be made, each monoprint is unique. This offers the artist a lot of freedom to experiment with different materials and techniques, such as paint, ink, stencils and textures.

Jacques Laureys, manager of the Poorthuis in Medemblik, made a colorful series of monoprints in a few months. In this he incorporated all kinds of shapes, sometimes with ancient symbolic meanings, such as shells, dice and birdcages.

The exhibition can be seen from July to September 2024 in the Poorthuis in Medemblik.
